It's like thunder and lightning
Today's ranking was certainly up there with the weirdest of weathers. But man it was fun.
The shoot started with rain which turned into torrential rain, with thunder and lightning. We shot two practise ends and then they stopped us for a while because it was just bucketing down. Trying to shoot in it was fun, the trigger was slipping in one hand, the bow in the other a d you are literally just hanging on to make sure nothing goes AWOL. We don't shoot in raincoats, so every single thing is saturated, the rain running down your back, and dripping from your hat. Then the scope fogs up so you haven't a clue where to aim, until a drop of rain clears it enough to get lined up. The spotting scope is useless, it's totally drenched. Good challenging stuff. It got so dark that the lights had to go on in the stadium, and then for a while the rain eased off completely and the sun came out...another challenge. Trigger and bow stuck to each hand, no smooth movement to release it and more foggy sights. It was getting a bit warm, the clouds overhead were looking a bit ominous and then yes you guessed it, suddenly a crack of lightning followed immediately with huge thunder that appeared from nowhere. We were all shuffled into the stadium for safety reasons and delayed the shoot once more. We only had two ends to go! Finally we managed to get out of there and head back to the hotel for a late dinner. Steph did awesome, coming in at tenth and creating a new new Zealand record in the process. I shot pretty average coming in at 31st and Anne 37 th.
The rain was warm so it wasn't really a major worry to get wet, there was no wind so that was a bonus, but the thunder and lightning is still going on now, and probably will do for a while yet!
Individual eliminations tomorrow so I better go dry off my gear!
