India - Day 3
Although we didnt have to be ready until 12.00, we were up early getting breakfast and so on, and decided to venture past the security and out into the world of India. We looked at a map, several times, then asked the guards which way to India Gate. You can have a look in the Gallery, it was impressive.
To get to India Gate we had to negotiate 3 roundabouts, dogs lying in the middle of the pavement, uneven paths and other random things to get there. We were walking down one road, looking around, every tuk tuk beeping and stopping asking us if we wanted a ride, and then we were almost there when we walked past yet another pile of leaves. Suddenly, the leaves moved as a man was lying in them camouflaged, and stuck his head out to look at us! Steph and I jumped out of our skins! We changed routes on the way home.
India Gate was pretty amazing, there was a ceremony of some sort going on, and lots of tourists. Walking towards it you could see on the side the people digging up the dirt, kids playing and carrying the little ones away while their parents worked and rubbish, everywhere. Walking back we encountered a squirrel, some people in their huts, washing their clothes, see the pix to understand what I am saying, its just a totally different way of life. We are so very lucky.
Headed back to the hotel for lunch, then on to the stadium for the practise. The wind was up and it was a challenge, but we had a good 3 hours practise, and hopefully tomorrow we will be able to put that practise together and shoot some good scores. We each have an English and an Indian woman on our targets and so its good to be shooting amongst the best.
Driving back from the stadium the roads were jammed with what was either 5.00 traffic, or Hockey World Cup cars coming out. It was bumper to bumper for ages, with everyone beeping and staring at us (we have police escorts for our buses). Suddenly out of nowhere, there is a small gap on the road, and this camel is running down the highway with a load and a guy on its hump. It was yet another case of bizarre in India!
Dinner is done, and I feel like I am eating too many carbs, we have been trying to encourage our support delegates to bring us chocolate, so we will see what tomorrow brings! We've managed to get some coffee coupons, thats a bonus. They only have coffee in the morning here, so its good they have sorted that one out.
I'm on 3b tomorrow, will do some mental training for a while, before I fall to sleep, all curried up...
