teams knockout.
We were up against the Russians. I have this thing with them, in Turkey I shot my individual matchplay against Albina Loginova, and then China against Viktoria Balzhanova, and they both beat me and were both on the Russian team we were facing. I thought, right, 3rd time lucky?
First end, the nerves were evident in my shot as pulled out an 8 to start. Not so hot. We shot a 53/60 but fortunately they shot a 49. We thought ok, we just have to keep them in the middle. Next end, they shoot a 59/60! They just came back and after 3 ends they were one point ahead. I am first up and on the fourth and final end I shot an 8, and then Steph and Linda shot golds, and my last arrow I nailed the 10. Unfortunately they matched our end, and we lost by just the one point. This would have been a huge upset if we had managed to knock them out, they went on to beat Great Britain and one other to be in the gold medal match against Korea tomorrow. Well done to them they held it together well.
I feel like I didnt shoot as well as I could have, the shots felt good but controlling the nerves when you are up against the worlds best is a challenge. I know that next time I meet them things will be different.
The guys were up against the Finnish team first up and it was another tightly contested match. They all shot really well, and unfortunately were pipped at the post by one point. They all did great as a team and we are proud to say that we are from NZ with their efforts also.
Thats it for us women, we ended up 13th out of 29 in the teams event, and 3rd in the Commonwealth. Really we can be proud of what we have achieved with our inexperience and what we have to do for ourselves, it is a huge learning curve to shoot with some outstanding athletes on the world stage, and one that I personally will remember and learn from.
Steven shoots the finals day after tomorrow and we'll all be there to cheer him on. Best of luck Steve!!!

Hi Mands
Sounds like you are really experiencing some challenging competition. We think all of the NZ team should be really proud of themselves doing as well as you have up against some pretty tough competition.
It must be amazing just to be there and gain precious experience. Look forward to you coming home. Greenwood Archers miss you!
Good luck to Steven for tomorrow. Hope he can pull it off.
Love Julie Steve and Victoria Barczak
