Training Day 29th Aug
Went to bed about 7.30pm and slept until 5.30, hopefully that will catch up on some of the hours I missed on the plane. Breakfast opens at 6am, so I decided to go to the gym (yes the gym!) and walk on the treadmill for 20 mins. Fortunately there was football on the tv in there as I had fallen asleep last night with my ipod going, and its now flat. They have those vibrating machines in the gym too (no airconditioning and its about the size of my office) and so I had a crack at that for a laugh, it was funny! You stand on the plate & your body wobbles all over the place. Not sure what its meant to do or how you are supposed to feel but it was something to do in the morning.
The food here is pretty average, its hard to find something that you just go 'yum' with, and breakfast wasnt any different. Jumped on the bus to the training grounds and looked forward to a good day of shooting. This morning we shot in what started out as great weather, sunshine, very little wind if any at all, and then as the morning went on the weather turned to gusts & heavy winds, and rain. Looking over to the city there is a wind turbine, and as we are on the coast I guess this is good prep for the days ahead.
There are so many archers that we have different training feilds depending on the hotel you are staying at, so we were shooting today with South Africa, Poland, Brazil, Mexico, Georgia and a few smaller groups. As more and more teams arrive tomorrow the line will fill up pretty quickly. I shot just over 140 arrows this morning and was feeling good about it all as we headed back to the hotel for lunch.
Back at the training ground this afternoon, weather calmed slightly but the wind was a challenge. I started off hitting every piece of the target, spraying arrows everywhere but eventually got into the rhythm and even managed a 57/60 at one end - it was so windy I just had to take a pic! A korean guy that is staying in the hotel also asked me how I was shooting in his broken english, and I said really good to him. He then faced me, grabbed his stomach with both hands and said something like 'ahh because you have fat belly, good in wind'.. well, what do you say to that! Fortunately I saw the funny side, and so I have yet to determine the korean sense of humour so I can get one back on him!
Shot another 90 arrows this afternoon then headed back to the hotel for food and an early night.
Same deal tomorrow, I wonder what the weather will bring this time!
