The Banquet

Ok, I dont do heights.

I was told that we were going up the Oriental Pearl TV Tower for dinner, and I was thinking ok well I'll just stay home. I decided I'd give it a go, and in order to do this the following had to happen:

  1. No-one was to tell me how high we were going
  2. I wasnt allowing myself to look 'up'
  3. I needed a drink to get up there (see it here)

Standing beneath it in the shanghai lights was amazing I managed to take a picture when I wasnt even looking at it, so that was something. You go thru security scanners once inside, and they had a line for Chinese and another for everyone else for the lifts. Lots of deep breathing and trying to be calm, we get to the lift and I have Barb on one side of me, Shaun on the other each holding my arms and then Anne behind me, herding me in. I was soaked with perspiration, and focussed on the people in the lift so I couldnt hear what the lady was saying about the height.

I made it to the top without knowing where I was, how high I was and I was light headed and scared, but I did it. And I stayed there. I went no-where near the glass so dont ask me about the views!

The restaurant was revolving and the food was ok, so we ate, drank and chatted to the other archers til late on. It was fun, and interesting. Becks, happy birthday for next week!

Finally we headed downstairs and there was a crew of the 'younger ones' amping to go into town, so I decided to escape back to the hotel.  We shared a cab, four of us, and the crazy cab driver took us on a tiki tour - it was mad!  He turned down this alleyway & I was thinking whats going on here, he was thinking this is a shortcut, and we zoom down this narrow alley, and slam on the brakes as it was blocked off by concrete posts!! We just cracked up, looked behind as 2 other taxis came up the rear, and wondered how the hell we were going to get out. 100 point-turn did it, and these guys know how to move in small spaces, and off we went to the hotels. Madness.

We got back there and the partiers were there waiting for some others to go into town, and I slinked off to bed, its been a big week.  But fun.
